New Releases: YACHT – I Walked Alone Remix EP

YACHT have released the remix EP for their track, “I Walked Alone”. The Larry Gus remix keeps the tempo of the original track but adds a gentle, warm, white-noise hiss of an well-worn vinyl record in the background. Max Tundra delivers a more electrified version of the YACHT original. Parisian duo Get A Room!, aka Rove Dogs and Jeff Masson give the track a house music reworking by dropping in synths. New York City’s Jacques Renault contributes a remix both with and without vocals.

Introducing: Labirinto – Brazilian Prog-Rock

Formed in mid-2003 by friends who sought to combine their musical and personal influences through instrumental composition, Labirinto seeks to create textures and atmospheres full of imagery. Labirinto’s music is a sonic experiment and they bring the listener along for the beautiful ride.

The band’s most recent full length album Anatema is available on deluxe digipack CD and double LP. The album was mixed at the Electrical Audio Studio in Chicago by Greg Norman (Pelican/Russian Circles) and mastered by Bob Weston (Shellac/Mission of Burma/Sebadoh). It is an amazing orchestral, prog-rock journey across its 6 track, which are in the vein of Godspeed! You Black Emperor and Mogwai. About Anatema, the band states that it “presents a conceptual narrative about creation, destruction and the eternal reconstruction of the world”. It is beautifully package with stunning illustrations by João Ruas, a renowned American comic book.

Labirinto’s new track “Cairo” was featured on the charity “More Hope for Japan” compilation, together with Thisquietarmy, Kontakte, Her name is Calla, and Signal Hill. The track will be also available on a new EP due for release in early 2012 by Dissenso Records on 12″ vinyl and CD (special 500 copies limited edition), which is still untitled.

To promote the new EP, the band will embark on their second international tour to USA and Canada in March and April 2012, with shows at Canadian Music Fest and Casa del Popolo (Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s venue in Montreal).

“Cairo” is available as a stream on the “More Hope for Japan’ compilation’s Soundcloud.

New Releases: Total Slacker – Thrashin

Total Slacker are a Brooklyn-based band made up of members Tucker Rountree, Emily Jane and Ross Condon. The New Yorker calls them “part of the Brooklyn contingent of a sub-genre … shitgaze.” and The Village Voice calls “Front man Tucker Rountree manages to echo both Thurston Moore and Lou Reed with his half-sung, half-spoken lyrics about being young, broke, and in love.” The Sonic Youth reference is definitely fitting if you think of a poppier version Goo-era Thurston Moore. The band released their debut album, Thrashin, on Sept 26th in the UK and will now release the album in America in the new year (exact date tbc). I am definitely looking forward to hearing more from them.
