She Makes War Announces New Album And Releases Video

She Makes War releases her sophomore album Little Battles on April 9th. The album was co-produced by She Makes War and Myles Clarke (Sparkadia, Kid Harpoon, Belakiss) during the summer 2011. Recorded around the corner from the Hackney riots, London’s tension is echoed throughout the album – it’s honest and vulnerable yet confident, all melancholy romance and hope for the future.

To accompany the album, She Makes War has released a video for the song ‘Exit Strategy’. She describes the video as “Ms Pacman is brought to life in this claustrophobic Groundhog Day meets horror flick”.

She Makes War is the gloom-pop solo project of Laura Kidd who is a multi-instrumentalist and visual artist. She has toured across the world while playing bass and singing for Tricky, A-Ha, I Blame Coco, The Young Punx and Alex Parks. Kidd released her debut album Disarm in September 2010 accompanied by five DIY videos and follows up its success with this new album, Little Battles.

Little Battles will be launched with a musical / visual extravaganza on April 11 @ The Half Moon, Herne Hill, featuring special guests including She Makes War’s indie supergroup The Olympians, alongside an international webcast party. Concubines Release Debut Single And Video

Concubines’ debut single ‘Darkness’ will be released on limited edition vinyl via Howling Owl Records on May 14. Concubines is an indie rock band influenced by Nick Cave, TV on the Radio, Roxy Music and Arcade Fire and have similarities to The Editors and Interpol.

The video for ‘Darkness’ was directed by Míša V Krabičce who applied her love for German Expressionism as well as influences from Kate Bush videos and the Shen Wei dance arts to the choreography of professional dancers, Finn Matthews and Izzy Bree.

PS I Love You Release New Track + Announce Tour

PS I Love You have release a new track, ‘Princess Towers’, which is lifted from their latest album, Death Dreams. The album will be available on May 8th (Canada / US) and May 28 (UK) on CD and limited edition 180 gram white vinyl + CD) via Paper Bag RecordsDeath Dreams was truly low budget – it was recorded with Meet Me At The Muster Station (their previous album) producer Matt Rogalsky on his portable studio in the band’s rehearsal space. No big budget studios for these lads. The album’s photography and design of the album’s artwork was created and executed by Benjamin Nelson.

Japandroids Announce Sophomore Album, Single and Tour Dates

Vancouver duo Japandroids have announced the follow-up to their 2009 debut Post-Nothing. The new album titled, Celebration Rock will be released on June 5th through Polyvinyl Record Co. and will be available on CD, LP and digital as well as limited edition  180-gram red vinyl available for pre-order at

Celebration Rock was recorded in Vancouver at The Hive with engineer Jesse Gander, who previously worked with the band on Post-Nothing.

Album Review: Eight And A Half – Eight And A Half

Eight and a Half is a new project featuring Justin Peroff ( from Broken Social Scene), and Dave Hamelin and Liam O’Neil (formerly of The Stills). Their self-titled debut, ‘Eight And A Half’ will be released on April 10, 2012 through Arts & Crafts on vinyl / CD and by digital download. From start to finish, ‘Eight And A Half’ combines pop hooks with atmospheric soundscapes to take the listener on an interesting journey through many different sonic textures. This is definitely an album that is best  played loud through good headphones to get the full impact of what they had attended the listener to hear.

The Civil Wars Release Cover Of ‘Sour Times’

The Civil Wars have recorded a cover of Portishead’s ‘Sour Times’ and performed it live in a London alley. This recording will be featured as the B-side to The Civil War’s upcoming Billie Jean 7 inch vinyl, releasing on Record Store Day 2012.

Civil Wars are an enigmatic duo made up of Nashville via California transplant Joy Williams and her Alabaman partner, John Paul White. They have independently sold over 215,000 copies of their album ‘Barton Hollow’ already in the USA through touring and word of mouth. The band is touring extensively in support of ‘Barton Hollow’ during 2012.
