Hurricane Bells have released the “Bodega Strings EP” which contains remixes of tracks from their 2011 album “Tides and Tales”. Culture Addicts’ fave David Lee Rad has reworked I’ve Got A Second Chance and Michael J and Dennis Cahlo also remix tracks for the EP. You can find out more about the release here.
Hurricane Bells is led by Steve Schlitz who was the frontman for the New York-based indie rock band Longwave. Schlitz started recording more personal songs all by himself on a simple laptop-based studio at his Brooklyn home.

David Lee Rad has just released a remix of fellow Rochester band KOPPS for the track ‘LA Lights’. Furthering the Rochester connection, the original track was produced by Dan Armbruster of Joywave, also based in Rochester. David Lee Rad takes the original track, chops up the vocals, slows down the track and adds some deep synths which moves it from the pop territory taking it to another level all together. If you like M83’s more upbeat tracks, I think you will like this remix. Take a listen to the remix and original below.
Today, I opened my email inbox to a very pleasant surprise – an email from David Lee Rad introducing his new track, ‘…The Morning We Woke Up’. This is an atmospheric song in the vein of M83 and Spiritualized that meanders and builds a beautiful sonic landscape. David Lee Rad fittingly describes the track as ‘A simple love song…when love is new and good and exciting! It’s the first kiss, the first time you realize you’ll never be the same.’After hearing this synth heavy and spaced out vocals on this track, I am definitely looking forward to hearing more from this New York based artist.
